Industrial Communication Solutions for More Reliable Networks

A PoE (Power over Ethernet) switch is a network switch that combines Ethernet data transmission and DC power delivery over the same Ethernet cable. In addition to providing standard switching functions such as packet forwarding and network connectivity, a PoE switch can supply power directly to compatible powered devices (PDs), including IP cameras, wireless access points, IP phones, and other network terminals, eliminating the need for separate power cabling. In a typical network architecture, a PoE switch is deployed at the access layer, connecting downstream PoE devices while linking upstream to an aggregation or core switch, and may also support functions such as VLAN, QoS, fiber uplinks, and network redundancy for industrial and surveillance applications.

A PoE switch transmits both Ethernet data and DC power over a single network cable, allowing compatible devices such as IP cameras, wireless access points, and IP phones to operate without a separate power connection. In a typical surveillance network, IP cameras connect to the PoE switch, while the switch uses Ethernet or SFP fiber uplinks to connect to the core network and NVR/VMS system.

An industrial Ethernet switch is specifically designed for demanding operating environments and typically incorporates features such as extended operating temperature ranges, redundant power inputs, fanless thermal design, rugged enclosures, DIN-Rail mounting, and wide DC voltage support. These features improve operational reliability and installation flexibility compared with conventional commercial Ethernet switches.

Redundant power input provides two independent DC power connections to the switch. If the primary power source fails or is interrupted, the backup power source can maintain the operation of the device, improving power availability and reducing the risk of network interruption caused by a single power failure.

A wide DC input range allows the switch to operate with different industrial power supply voltages. For example, models supporting 9–56VDC can accommodate common 12VDC, 24VDC, and 48VDC power systems, providing greater flexibility for industrial power architectures.
